A group of internet artists from all over the place who have decided to give each other a challenge every few weeks, on a theme chosen by each in turn. We have different ideas and styles, but share a love of textiles, and want to have some fun.

Not sure about this

I spent a day doing this and I'm not sure about it yet. I started by drawing a feather.
Then spread the colour,
Then added a few more.

My thinking is for me to do this challenge I must be true to the quilter I am.

I have always thought of the quilting as the part of the process which gives texture to a piece by giving it light and shadow. This feeling of dimension is what shadows give us, a sense of depth. They, and the light give is the ability to see depth even with one eye closed.

This piece looks better in the photo than it actually is. It needs another try on another day. I want the colour to emphasize the depth of  the piece more than just plain stitching would i.e. the shadows in the valleys of the stitch to appear darker than pure shadow would give them.....

Absolutely, you must be true to yourself Sally! I see light and shadow in your colouring without stitch. You could always try the other way round?!! Start off with really dark cloth and take the colour out? Just saying!! Good luck with it - I love the shapes and those spaces between the feathers too.

I did some dye painting yesterday, and must have got my plain white cottons mixed up with my soda soaked cottons, because this morning when I washed out, I lost most of the dye!! What a waste of time and effort. I'm going to put a safety pin in the corners of my fabrics in future so I know the difference.

sally... I wonder if adding stitch and then adding more colour might help this one?

Annabel...been there, done that, sigh,

I'm going to have to not look in your direction as I thought of feathers and was drawing them(although different) when Sunshine and Shadow was announced as the challenge. Yours are much better anyway so I'm glad I didn't go with that idea now!

I am not doing feathers. I am not.
