A group of internet artists from all over the place who have decided to give each other a challenge every few weeks, on a theme chosen by each in turn. We have different ideas and styles, but share a love of textiles, and want to have some fun.

Just a spot of admin (2)

Please read Marion's posting below.

Is there any interest in doing this in another format besides a blog? I've started a group page on Facebook so you can see what you think.(click here)

If you hadn't thought about size and format yet, could you let me know your thoughts. It seems to come down to whether or not you want to exhibit, in which case a prescribed size is easier to manage, but you may prefer to just do your own thing. (posting on 11th August refers)

While I wouldn't mind having Facebook conversations about the challenge, personally I prefer the blog format. I like being able to track back though peoples ideas - something that I find difficult in Facebook.
I didn't realise we had to say what size and format we were working to. Like my ideas of what I was going to do (far too ambitious!) I'm probably going to change my mind and scale down!! I'm currently doing my test pieces for larger works about A3 size.

I think it's the combination... it's difficult to focus on admin topics (like size) on a blog... easier if you can refer to them on a fb page, I think... I hope...or I could just shut up...;-)))

Hi Mags, no you don't have to say what size you do, it's just that a few people are interested in exhibiting and if we go down that way it will be easier if we all stick to the same size format. A rectangular shape similar to A3 seems most popular. I always work big and find small difficult, but am not really bothered. It's just up to everyone to say what they prefer. If no majority preference emerges, well, we'll leave it as it is so you can decide your own size.

The Facebook page is now open for anyone that wants to discuss details etc, or who finds the blog difficult to follow. In other words you have the choice of 2 places, but the blog will be the mainstay and will have the challenge pieces posted on it.

Just to re-iterate for everyone.... there is no change to the size format for this challenge. Any changes will take place before the next challenge is set.

I was planning on making my piece approx. A3-sized. Haven't actually started my piece yet, because my sewing machine is in for repair at the mo. Have a back-up machine I can use if there's no sign of it next week. I personally prefer the blog format, and I don't use facebook at all....

I guess I was happy to go along with whatever size/format other people wanted to work to, hence my silence on the subject. I have to agree that my current plans would be hard to work in too small a size and the idea of A3 feels positively liberating!
I've been away on holiday but now I'm back, some internet shopping has arrived and my son returns to school tomorrow so I'm hoping to find space for myself and my sewing and creating to start, in between tidying and cleaning my pit of a house in preparation for my hip operation next month...!

There are ways other than size for helping disparate items hang well together for exhibition, something we might wish to explore further at some point in discussion or practice.

The other possibility we could use for discussions is a forum group, like Yahoo groups(as an example).

I've done A4 size - ish for my pieces this time but I would be more than happy with A3...not larger though, that would be out of my comfort zone for art quilts! I started a large art quilt almost 2 years ago of the New York Skyline...and it's still not finished. It was supposed to be an engagement gift for my son and his GF - they get married next June!!

I have had a flash of inspiration today after being in the creative desert for weeks and am just starting a piece that will be slightly smaller than A4 this time. A3 or A4 or a combination of both would probably suit me at the moment.

I have this blog in my reader so I catch up with posts fairly quickly but Facebook is fine by me too.
